DIY: Vintage Hello Kitty Charm Necklace

Happy Friday!  I don't know about you guys- but for me, the week has been never-ending.  I honestly have no idea why--it was just one of those weeks that keep dragging on and on, and everyday I would wake up wondering if it was Friday yet.  So, I'm ready for the holiday weekend!  We don't really have any plans, which is actually pretty exciting to me because I'm really into the idea of relaxing this weekend.  What are your plans for the holiday weekend?

Moving onto the DIY.  This week I decided to make a charm necklace using some of the vintage mini Hello Kitty figures that I have been collecting over the years (and I have TONS!)  I absolutely love vintage charm necklaces (and Hello Kitty of course!) so I thought this would be a fun project.  I also made some matching bracelets too.  All of these items are now available for sale in my etsy shop! :)

Things you will need for this DIY: A chain- I'm using an antique colored chain to go with my charms.  You can find these at craft stores such as Jo-Ann's and Michaels.  You'll also need small bead rings to attach the charms, a variety of charms (I'm using vintage Hello Kitty pieces) and something for closing the necklace.  To close this necklace, I'm using ribbon.  Lastly, you'll need jewelry pliers for opening and closing the rings.

So are you ready to begin?


1. Gather your materials. 

 2. Pick out the charms you want to use and line them up.  Make sure you have one charm that will be your center focus and an equal amount of charms on both sides of the center charm.
3. Attach your first charm in the center using a jewelry ring.

4. Continue to add the charms on both sides of the necklace until all the charms have been added. 

5. Tie a ribbon at the end of one side, leaving space on both sides so that it can loop through the other side to tie a bow. 

It's complete!!
