Happy 2013! I hope that you all had a wonderful NYE and are ready for the new year. I had a fun evening celebrating with some of my closest friends and spent New Year's Day having breakfast with one of my best friends and then spent the day with my husband's family. Overall, it was a great way to start the new year----with people that I love. (And of course, I missed those that I didn't get to see!) How was your NYE and day? I hope you had a wonderful time and had some time to reflect on the past year and the upcoming one as well.
I have never believed in resolutions because I don't think it's fair to bind myself to certain things (you guys may know by now that I'm pretty obsessive about things, and making a resolution means that I have to follow through 100% no matter what) but I do like to look back over the year and see what changes I would like to make for the next. Part of those changes include ones for this blog. This blog has been such a fun & positive experience for me, and I can't thank those of you enough who have truly been a part of it.
Many of you may have noticed that my comment count has been getting increasingly lower and I have been visiting blogs less often. The truth is that I've only been visiting blogs that I truly find inspiring to myself and/or that I feel give me valuable feedback on my own blog. This may sound harsh, but I have been seeing so many of the same comments over and over again--and to be honest- this makes me beyond frustrated. I feel like sometimes people are leaving the same comment all over the blogosphere in hopes for a comment back on their blog, and I really just can't spend my time going back to every blog anymore. My blog was started as a personal style diary- as a form of documentation for me to record what I wear- and the comments are always an added bonus. I always love reading your genuine and sincere thoughts about what I'm wearing or what I've said on my post....so for those of you who do that, thank you.
Documenting my style has always been important to me- in high school, I kept a written log of what I wore each day so that I would never wear the same outfit twice. Yes, this is true. In all 4 years of high school, I did not repeat the same outfit, and I meticulously wrote down every detail at the end of each day so that I would know what I had worn in case I wanted to check back. My mom kept this for some reason, and when I found it a few years ago, it was funny to look back over. Of course, this was a long time ago, but my point is that I'm truly crazy, madly passionate about style, and I'm trying to emphasize that is the most important part of this blog. So, for 2013, you'll see me to continue to document my style, and I hope that those of you who truly love to come to visit will continue to do so. AND I promise that I'm going to try to include more DIY's...because I know a lot of you like them, and I enjoy making them as well.
You'll also notice one more thing on the side of my blog- links to my favorite pages- and no, I'm not talking about the blogs that EVERYONE visits. I'm talking about amazing, inspirational women whose blogs I must see on a daily basis before going to bed at night. I hope you find inspiration in some of them as well.
If you have read through all of this, thank you. You rock. :)

Wow, never the same outift? Thats dedication...and a lot of shopping :-)
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I like what you said..it´s about what you find inspirational...good luck for 2013!
http://jezzdallasmakeup.blogspot.com/
Thank you so much! It was a lot of dedication! And I've been addicted to shopping for a long time! :)
DeleteOmg that is insane haha. Blogging is def then a good way to document every outfit without writing :)

Definitely! :)
DeleteLove that you kept a detailed outfit journal during high school! I did the same thing with documenting my work outfits (including accessories) for the first company I worked for after college. My husband teased me immensely for it :) I don't document my outfits on my blog (I am a little older than the average fashion blogger) but I do enjoy writing fashion posts. Unfortunately, I got to the point of no longer commenting on the blogs of those who couldn't be bothered to comment back. For the most part, I try to leave insightful and inspiring comments, but found that some bloggers would never visit my blog. Now I basically do as you said and just visit those that inspire me :)
ReplyDeletehttp://cstyledesign.blogspot.com
I love that you documented your work outfits, Cathy! That would be a lot of fun too!
DeleteAllison, I feel the same way about the comments. I have gone to comment on someone to say thank you and respond and seen a new blog I wanted to visit, when I went to comment on that blog I noticed a word for word comment from the person I had originally gone to respond to.. that was not only irritating that I had "wasted my time" responding to someone who just copy/pasted a comment to get traffic, and never even came back... but it was also annoying that I try to always leave genuine comments and I read what people write and I like to think others read mine and leave genuine comments for me too.. it totally made me feel crappy that the person didn't mean their comment at all.. So I understand your frustration. But at least we have each other! hehe
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I look so forward to another year of comments, life updates, pics of Yuri, and inspiring fashionable posts from you. Oh yeah, and I need to get some of those new baroque glasses of yours!! As soon as I make some of the money back that I spent in December!

Thanks, Kier! You are so sweet! And we do have each other! ;)
DeleteI have always thought that itself is not needed a lot of clothes to do thousands of mixtures what but is needed is the creativity to achieve it, that patience for document in writing everything that you go using daily, but that alone reflects your true passion by the fashion:) Happy new year Allison!!
ReplyDeletewww.urbanikamoda.blogspot.com
I totally agree with you- all that is needed is creativity and you can make the most amazing outfit mixes. Now, I definitely don't do the "no outfit repeating" thing- my clothes get worn over and over!
DeleteHappy New Year Allison!!
ReplyDeleteI really love that story about your style diary in high school. I always thought that I was obsessive, but you definitely win. And I respect you all the more for it! It must have been so funny to read back through that journal and see the items that were your favourites. I so wish I had thought of this!
I honestly think you're blog and style are so amazing and inspiring. And your success is absolutely insane! We started our blogs around the same time and your results just blow my mind. Luckily, I absolutely think that you deserve it and I know that you put in so much hard work. I don't think you need to justify your comments at all -- I don't even know how you find the time! Can't wait to see what the new year has in store for you :)

Thanks, Alison! You are so sweet and your blog really inspires me as well! :)
DeleteThis is such a great, real post! I admire your determination to only visit blogs you truly love. And that you documented every single outfit from in high school--that's awesome. Happy New Year, and cheers to your fabulous changes!

Thank you so much! Happy new year to you too!
DeleteI agree with you that there is no reason to limit yourself or to put in a box. This post is inspiration for all of us, who writes blogs, to stay true to ourself and don't be afraid to be what we actually are.
ReplyDeleteI'm huge fan of your blog! I always enjoy reading your posts ;)
With love, Egle Ge {HideInSugar}
P.S. Thank you for announcing me as winner on giveaway from Lorraine Tyn. I'm already waiting for beautiful necklace to be shipped to my home. It was the first giveaway I won!! :)
Thanks, Egle! And congrats again on winning the necklace! I can't wait to see what you got! ;)
Deletehehe, of course I read it! and I absolutely agree when it comes to comments. I even follow the same rule. if someone writes "cool post!" or "nice" under every my post then I really don't have the time to spend on those blogs. I love visiting the blogs of by blogger friends (like you, for example ;) and I think it's only normal to read and explore everything in those blogs because someone has worked hard on their posts (I know I do since I'm a complete perfectionist). I also think that when you have a nice amount of favourites then this whole blogging thing will not become a routine. and it's very important to get feedback and realize that some people actually read the text and don't only go through the pictures :)
ReplyDeleteMaiken,
Maikeni blogi - part of me
I definitely agree with you, Maiken! :)
DeleteYou put a lot of work into your outfits in high school and also now. I can't believe you didn't repeat an outfit once! I'm actually the opposite, I have clothes I love that I wear over and over and over again. I have limited closet space so that works best for me now, but I like seeing what others are wearing.
ReplyDeleteI have slowly been unsubscribing from blogs over the past year for the same reason. I have limited free/blog time so I want to spend it well. Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year to you as well! I also have limited closet space now as well and believe me, my clothes now get worn a crazy amount of times! :)
DeleteHi Allison! Happy 2013! Hope it started at the best! I can get you very well, I also dislike when the comment is the same, at the first dont notice it but then when visit blogs I see it in every lol!:) Btw, you too rock dear, wish you a prosperous and cheerful new year! hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Lilli! you are too sweet!
DeleteOh Allison we are the same person!!!!! 1. If I see one more "nice blog, please follow me" I may vomit 2. My words are what are the inspiration behind my outfit and I know it's the same for you 3. I also write down EVERYTHING I wear, there are literally notebooks everywhere throughout our house, my husband thinks I'm a freak haha and 4. I honesty get excited when I see you have a new post up because you are one of those blogs that I MUST read. I know 2013 is going to be amazing for you :)
ReplyDeleteBrooke @ what2wear
Ps thank you for the link, it means the world coming from you!!!!!!!!!!!
Deletehaha, I think we might be the same, Brooke! I can't wait for what 2013 has in store for you as well! :)
DeleteAllison, I feel truly honoured to be a part of that list...you are such an inspiration and it's humbling that you even have the time to visit my blog. (((((hugs))))
ReplyDeleteI find it so amazing that you did that in high school! You were meant to be a fashion blogger. And agree with everything you said about the whole commenting thing.
Have a great Thursday, my dear. XOXO
Hi Emmy- of, course- I absolutely LOVE your blog. I FIND YOU so inspiring. I can't wait for 2013!
DeleteI am not just saying this, but I nearly cried seeing you put my blog as one of your daily reads after everything you just wrote. I consider myself very emotionally (and phyically ;)) strong but I am extremely sentimental and I found that very touching!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same exact way as you do and for awhile I was doing similar things and I always questions why. If people like what I put out that is wonderful if they don't oh well. It really is rewarding when you find those few people that you can connect with in some way and communicate with them in a REAL way not just for the sake of it..not my bag baby ;)
Anywhoo enough mush. I love you and your blog. I think you are truly creatively inspiring and much happiness and success in this coming year!

ReplyDeleteAmazing post dear!, happy new year!

Hi Allison! :) I find it amazing that you never repeated an outfit and you actually had a journal of your outfits. You must have an amazing closet! :D I'm so envious because I can't really do that. But I'd love to dress up. Maybe when I'm already earning, I'll do that. I really love your style because it's something that can be worn at different occasion and it's something really comfortable to wear. Well, in my point of view, you do look comfortable with it. :D Haha. Anyway, I hope you'll continue to inspire people with your DIY and your fashion. :D Wish you all the best! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Breena! I really do hope to do more DIY projects this year- I definitely miss doing them! :)
Deletewow sounds awesome :))

Allison, I am so honored to be included in your favorites! I feel the same way about comments, there are some that are just clearly copy and pasted, it can be so frustrating. I love that you documented all of your outfits, that's amazing and will be so awesome to look back on and see how your style has changed! I am so glad we met through blogging and I can't wait to see what 2013 has in store for you! :)

aww thanks, that's so sweet of you to say! :)
DeleteThanks for your sharing your honesty! I find this quite true as well about blogging. I admire that you had never worn the same outfit twice...it takes a lot of creativity to do that.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sam!
DeleteI really appreciate this... and I agree. I think to a certain point, we're all trying to grow our blogs organically and look for others with the same interests and passions that we have. At the same time, I think we also have a compulsion to comment back on every blog or follow back every follower out of politeness. However, I think we'd all be kidding ourselves if we loved each blog equally. There's some people whose style/picture/writing/personality we just like more. And I don't think there's anything wrong with giving those blogs a little more love.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you...it's hard not to comment back to everyone, but I've just gotten to the point where I'm exhausted, especially with those people who are just visiting my blog for a comment in return. :)
DeleteHello from Spain: you do the right thing. You have to read the blogs that really bring something inspiring for you. I agree with you. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteThank you. Have a great new year!
Deletedear A, i totally understand how you feel about comments. i comment on blogs after reading what the writer has to say (after looking at the pictures.. LOL). i feel not doing that is disingenuous to the blogger's efforts.
ReplyDeletei love that you kept a log as far back as high school and that you didn't repeat an outfit!! actually, i love it more that your mom kept them. that's so amazing. you are a blog i visit all the time and i love reading everything you wrote. my heart beamed when i saw that i was on your blog list!! that's such an HONOUR you have no idea. and you rock too! i look forward to seeing what you do on your amazing journey in 2013!

I think I repeat a lot of outfit in high school. I don't do that anymore. I keep a notebook with all the outfit I have worn the last 2 year of blogging. Also I have all my remix outfit in there to. Since my blog label isn't right. I can't wait to see what you have in store for 2013.
ReplyDeleteaww I love that you log all of your outfits! That's awesome!
DeleteGreat Post!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the resolution part haha I never have them because I always fail :P
I have the same problem I have my own list of special blogs I check but I must say I go through a lot the past few months.
But I get what you mean I always try to put a personal something in my comment you know instead of just copy pasted things that don't apply..
P.S Just wanted to remind you that my giveaway is still open for everyone to join !
You can only say YES to this amazing Frenchonista Clutch worth $150 !!

Thanks, Jen. It can definitely be frustrating! Happy new year!
DeleteI totally get what you mean with resolutions, i don't stick to mine so i don't make them:) well said about the comment count, mine has also dropped cause i don't have all the time to go to all the blogs and comment, the few i check out daily are my favorite, those that inspire me, the copy and paste comments are annoying but i don't let it get to me,not repeating an outfit in high school WOW, PS your blog is one of my favorite, your style is classic:) i also love your DIY, Happy new year
ReplyDeletehttp://shana-style.blogspot.com
aww thanks so much, Joy! You are super sweet! I'm going to try to get back to the DIY's this year :)
DeleteHi Allison, 1st a Brilliant 2013 & adore the Hello Kitty.
ReplyDeleteI recognize a drop in commment-amount when you do not "comment back" on everyone and everybody but I consider it more fun and valuable when people are actually interested in you than the "please look at me" factor. I think every fashionblogger knows one how does (*cough* Milex *cough* and he gets a zillion comments, but that must take a lot of time to comment on all these people (although his comments aren't that sophisticated I think he as a book with about 20 phrases that he recycles).
Sorry about the gossip but keep on blogging for the people who care :D
LOL you are too funny! I definitely do write my posts for people to read them, not just for empty responses...so happy to have people like you who care ;)
DeleteThank you for being honest and putting it out there about the comments. I blog for me, and yes, comments are good and dandy (as are followers) but it's really for me and my personal style journey. I am with you, I too get upset and frustrated with the simple one word posts, because I actually spend time reading what people have to say and what they are wearing. I take inspiration from others, and I am an honest person about the comments. Yes, I'll be lazy sometimes, but at the end of the day, I would rather leave a honest statement then just some crap that everyone else reads.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your honesty. May 2013 be a year of success, happiness and smiles!

Thanks, Clare. I definitely agree with you...it can be frustrating! Have a great 2013!
DeleteA very Happy New Year to you!!!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you on the same comment every time on the blog!! It's like people have memorised or jus copied a line ant they paste it on everyone's blog!! I dissappeared from the blogosphere just because I could not handle the same thing over and over again and wanted a fresh start in the new year!! Your blogpost is really inspiring!! Thank you so much for the inspiration!!
Hope you have a great day!!! :)

Thanks, Mehak! I hope you have a wonderful 2013!
DeleteAllison, a big giant KUDOS to you for this post – I am getting pretty tired of the same old meaningless comments myself, and the "follow for follow" bs. It all seems to feel a bit silly after a while, and so far from the reasons that we started these blogs. So inspiring – this makes me love your blog even more!
ReplyDeleteSea and Swank
awww thanks, Susie! I love your blog as well! :)
DeleteTotally agree with you. I don't like the comments followed by "let's follow each other" or "please follow me" :/
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel about the comments. It just doesn't make sense to me when people leave little 2 words comments that clearly indicate they didn't read any of the blog post. I guess there will always be people like that. Sometimes I feel like my comments on people's blogs are too long, haha, but I can't help it, I usually have a lot to say especially if people's blog posts contain more than just pictures.
ReplyDeleteP.S. That is amazing that you never wore the same outfit twice in HS. Some girls in my grade in HS got a part-time job just so they could afford to buy enough clothes so they wouldn't wear the same thing twice...crazy but cool! :)
heheh...I love your long comments...it's people like you who make me love blogging! It makes me know that my posts are actually being read! :) And don't worry because I tend to leave long comments on people's posts as well! :)
DeleteAww yay, out with the old in with the new! Count me in as a regular reader although I haven't been visiting as often as I like to these days but hopefully that will change now that I'm back in my boring life as a boring mom... oops did I say that loud? I am beyond impressed by your teenage style diary. Now that you've mentioned it, you'll have no excuse but to post excerpts from it. Preferably with a manga character of your younger self too in each ensemble. Happy new year dear, hope 2013 brings bigger and brighter prospects for Kawaii Kitsch, although you're already off to a pretty great start.
ReplyDeletexx Jenee C.
{camo meets couture}
aww thanks, Jenee! I know, I totally need to post excerpts from it- that would be beyond funny. Now, I'll need to re-find it since we've moved. :)
DeleteI know how it is with commenting just for comment's sake.. I actually spotted the same comment on my blog, it was so general that you could replace the last word to match any other blog, so it was a matter of copy-paste.. I mean why bother really.. so the person probably made a mistake on my post, which is how I figured.. I think itäs a bit lame..
ReplyDelete
