DIY: Pom-Pom Clutch

Ahhhh, I know.  It's been FOREVER since I've done a DIY.  OK, don't get too excited yet.  This isn't some elaborate, over-the-top one.  But, I thought it would be fun to create a Valentine's Day-ish clutch (even though it's not for another month!!)  Basically, I've been seeing all of these cute Red/Pink/Purple sparkly things EVERYWHERE and wanted to do something with the cute colors and when I saw the pom-poms, I was like OH, YES, I have to do something with those!  This is super easy and takes about 15 minutes to do!  The good thing is that doing it made me inspired to start doing more blog DIY's...so hopefully I'll do another soon!

Ready to begin?

Step 1. Gather your materials.  I got a bag of Valentine's Day-colored pom-poms from Michaels, which was what made me want to do the DIY.  They were around $5 for this large bag.  I also got a plain canvas clutch (any clutch will do).  You'll also need a few different paint colors- I went with plain and glittery colors (these should be about $1 each at a craft store).  Lastly, you'll need a few paint brushes and some adhesive (any craft glue is fine).

Step 2. The painting.  (I was supposed to have more photos before this, obviously, but about half of my photos got erased somehow :(  Anyways....First paint the clutch one solid color.  After letting it dry for a few minutes, start painting solid stripes and adding polka dots if you'd like.  I painted solid colors, glittery colors and random polka dots, all in no particular order.  I didn't worry about straight lines for this...in fact, I wanted them to not look perfect.

Step 3. Pick out your pom-poms that you are planning to use and arrange a pattern along the edge of your bag.

Step 4. Using adhesive, glue the pom-poms on along the border.  Let them sit for around 15 minutes so they can thoroughly dry before picking up the bag.

Step 5.  Once it's completely dry, wear and enjoy!

What do you guys think?  It's pretty simple, right?  Will you try it?

It looks soo simple, but I have a feeling that if I were to try it, I'd still find a way to mess it up.

  22. That's such a fun project and it came out beautifully! Perfect for Valentine's! I've never attempted a fashion DIY but it might be easier than I thought :)

P.S. YES! I totally love people who appreciate art history as well. It's absolutely fascinating.

PPS. I noticed those ballet shoes were available in black and silver so I snagged them for even cheaper than the gold ones had been! I like the gold ones just a little bit better but hopefully the black/silver ones will be just as nice in real life. :)

  23. Hmm, the gluing I think I can do but the painting, I would definitely fail in that department! You are surely one talented person, Allison.. but then again I think we've already established that! ;)
