Modern Art + Fashion = A's Perfect Match

As many of you know, art is my first love.  Specifically, modern art.  By now you know that I'm often drawn to quirky modern things, like jewelry from the 40's and 50's, as well as unique clothing items.  I also love it when current designers draw inspiration from influential modern artists, as I find these pieces especially intriguing and fun.  I wanted to highlight just a couple of my favorites from my collection below.

Item: DVF Carolina Lips Clutch.  Inspiration: Man Ray.  Period of Modernism: Dada.
Ray made a series of paintings/objects of Lee Miller's lips during and after their relationship, even casting her lips in gold.  When I first saw this clutch, I instantly thought of Man Ray.

Item: 3.1 Phillip Lim Ka-Pow Sweater.  Inspiration: Roy Lichtenstein.  Period of Modernism: Pop Art
Lichtenstein's comic prints inspired many designers last season, and Lim's sweaters became a huge hit.

Item: My own DIY shoes.  Inspiration: Picasso.  Period of Modernism: Cubism.
Sometimes, if you can't find something that you really want, you have to DIY it yourself!

I hope you guys are having a great week!  Do you have anything in your wardrobe that was inspired by an art movement you love?

  2. I noticed quite a bit of pop art inspired clothing going around lately and I just love it! (Huge pop art fan) That's quite cool about the lips, with the two images right next to each other like that you can really see the inspiration.

  3. I love love love art as well. In fact, art history is my major :) There's these scarves on amazon that feature Van Gogh's paintings on them, which I love (as so many people do). Those shoes you painted yourself are so, so cool- I'd love to see them for sale in your shop, if they aren't already!

Thanks for helping me out with the Zara shoes. Unfortunately, today when I checked back, they ran out of my size (although they had them last night). I don't even know if they would've worked for me though as I have weird flat feet and ballet flats do nothing for me. So I'm still undecided!

Can't believe you did it yourself, you're such a talent! I have been obsessed with those umbrellas that come with the print of impressionist paintings, I just need to find them!
